IF YOU HAVE NORTON, NORMAN, OR ZONE ALARM FIREWALLS:

I have received many emails about not being able to see images or get downloads from my sites. The majority of people can see the images, but for those who can't I have addressed this problem in more detail.

I have installed an ".HTACCESS" file on my sites to prevent other webmasters from linking directly to my files and stealing my bandwidth. This, however, creates problems for my visitors that have firewalls installed on their PC's. Below are instructions to get around this so that you can view my sites as others do.

The way .htaccess works is by reading the referrer information and comparing it to a list of acceptable referrers. If the referrer does not match the list, or is not present, access to the specific directory is blocked by. Apparently, NORTON or some other types of firewall software will block the referrer information.

My image and screensaver files has an ".htaccess" protecting them, and if the referrer cannot be read, even if it is from my own site, the images directory will be denied access.
In laymen's terms: you can not see the images or download a screensaver if you have your firewall's settings to block this.

People who use the firewall component that comes with Windows XP should not have this problem.

CHANGING FIREWALL SETTINGS SO THAT YOU CAN SEE IMAGES:
Check your firewall (NORTON OR NORMAN AND ZONE ALARM have this) software and see if it can be configured to allow referrer access.
Most firewall software will have an option to allow referrer information only for a specific site; in that case, add the following sites to referrer allow all listed below if you want to be able to view all of my sites. If you choose to only use one site, only that site needs to be set to allow:
http://www.art-tlc.com/
http://www.screensavers-tlc.com/
http://www.wallpapers-tlc.com/
http://www.animatedbackgrounds-tlc.com/
http://www.animatedwallpapers-tlc.com/
If you are having trouble downloading screensavers, you will have to also add these following sites where some savers are stored:
http://www.holidaysavers-tlc.com/
http://www.savers-tlc.com/
http://www.moviesavers-tlc.com/

CHANGING NORTON FIREWALL SETTINGS SO THAT YOU CAN SEE IMAGES:
1) Go to Norton Firewall Config main screen
2) Double-click "Privacy Control", you'll get the "Norton Firewall Privacy Control Screen".
3) On that screen, click "Advanced"
4) On the "Advanced" screen, scroll down under web contents options until you get to the domain/site (i.e. http://www.art-tlc.com or my other sites listed above) and click it once to select.
5) Under "Information About Visited Sites" uncheck default, and set it to "Permit".
6) Click ok on both that screen and the "Advanced" screen.

OR:

1) Go to Norton Firewall Config main screen.
2) Click on the "Options" menu at the top of the screen and choose "Internet Security."
3) Click on the "Web Content Tab."
4) Under "Global Settings," find the box labeled "Information about visited sites." Click the "Permit" radio button in this section.
5) Click the "OK" button to save your changes.

CHANGING ZONEALARM FIREWALL SETTINGS SO THAT YOU CAN SEE IMAGES:
1) Open ZoneAlarm by right clicking on the icon in the task tray.
2) Click Privacy on the left side.
3) Under Cookie control, select Custom.
4) In the Custom Privacy Options window, choose the Cookies tab.
5) Unclick Remove Private Header Information.

ZoneAlarm also blocks images if you have settings on "High". A 'quick fix' for this is to change back to Default settings for ZoneAlarm, which is "Medium".

OTHER FIREWALL PROGRAMS:Other firewall software can be configured in a similar manner. If you use another firewall besides Norton or ZoneAlarm and cannot view my images, please consult the manual or website for your specific firewall to allow referrers.

OTHER REASONS YOU CAN'T SEE IMAGES:
If you have installed any special downloading programs, like Download Accelerator, you might not be able to access these files. If you are using one, please close it and download using your browser. To disable Download Accelerator, right click on the desktop accelerator icon and there is option to "Disable Browser Integration".

CAN'T GET DOWNLOAD OR SEE IMAGES: - For 'quick fix' way to download and see images: Norton Internet Security 2004, Norton Personal Firewall, Norman AntiVirus, and Norman Personal Firewall can be disabled to download these screensavers. Norton and Norman can also prevent you from seeing all images on my pages and other websites. If this happens to you, please disable Norton Internet Security or Norman firewall while visiting my pages. For a more permanent solution, see above details on changing the settings in these programs.

There are also 'options' adjustments in the settings on both of these programs so that all sites can be viewed. By default, Norton Internet Security blocks all ads and banners on all websites. This can be harmful because logos and other important info on websites, can be blocked if this setting is left 'on'. If this program came with your new pc, be sure to take the block off, so that webpages will not be left with huge blank spots.

XP SP2 update (August 2004) blocks pop ups by default. If you choose to see these, the default settings in Windows must be changed.

ZoneAlarm also blocks images if you have settings on "High". Default settings for ZoneAlarm is "Medium".
